Church to deliver Christmas meals

St. John’s United Methodist Church will deliver about 250 meals to the elderly and the disabled on Friday for Christmas.

Volunteers will deliver the meals from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., said Annette Mize, the mission chairperson at St. John’s.

Man faces 2 drug charges

A Greenwood man has been charged with drug possession following a Saturday night foot chase with officers.

Jerrance Jones, 36, 337 W. Adams Ave., has been charged with one count of possession of Schedule II drugs and one count of crystal meth.

‘Pre-Christmas’ meal to be offered

Feeding the hungry at Christmastime has been an ongoing mission of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church’s Youth Department for the past three years.

On Thursday, a free “Pre-Christmas” dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Booker’s Place, 211 W. McLaurin St.

The dinner is open to the public.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
