Man charged with murder

The U.S. Marshals Service arrested a 21-year-old Cruger man and charged him with first-degree murder Tuesday.
Zaveion Owens, who’s also being held for authorities in Shelby County, Tennessee, was in custody at the Leflore County Jail as of Tuesday.

Ex-public works director sues city

The city of Greenwood and Mayor Kenderick Cox are facing a lawsuit from former public works director Susan Bailey after she was not nominated for reappointment.
Bailey, 66, served in that role for 13 years under former Mayor Carolyn McAdams, who was defeated by Cox in the 2025 mayoral election.

The outpatient physical rehabilitation clinic will be closing within 15 days as a part of a layoff of 86 employees at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. A limited staff of physical therapists will remain on staff during that time while patients transition to other physical therapy clinics in the area.
