    The Carroll Academy girls placed second and the boys were third at the District 2-AA meet, which concluded Saturday at Lee Academy in Clarksdale.
    The Lady Rebels had 62.5 points to tie Manchester Academy for second place. Central Holmes Christian School was first with 125 points, and Deer Creek School finished last with 12 points.

    J.Z. George advances to second round

    The J.Z. George High School girls fast-pitch softball team is headed to the second round of the MHSAA North 2A playoffs.
    The Lady Jags disposed of Kemper County Friday night, as they defeated the Lady Wildcats 19-4 in the first game of the best-of-three series. Kemper opted not to play the second contest and forfeited to J.Z. George.

The Carroll Academy girls placed second and the boys were third at the District 2-AA meet, which concluded Saturday at Lee Academy in Clarksdale.

The Lady Rebels had 62.5 points to tie Manchester Academy for second place. Central Holmes Christian School was first with 125 points, and Deer Creek School finished last with 12 points.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
