Services for Minnie Pearl Wilder of Greenwood will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

Ms. Wilder, 72, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, at Greenwood, Leflore Hospital.

She was a retired secretary who had worked for the Leflore County School District.

A memorial service for Tommy Lee Murry of Itta Bena will be held at noon Saturday at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Murry, 61, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

He was disabled.

The Rev. Patrick Lucas will officiate at the services.

Leflore County Tigers rally to defeat Leake County, advance to Big House

The Leflore County High School boys basketball team survived its quarterfinal matchup with Leake County High School, as the Tigers pulled off a 45-43, come-from-behind win over the Gators at Raymond High School Wednesday in the Class 1A State Tournament.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
