Prophet back home after wreck

A Greenwood woman hospitalized last Wednesday after a crash on Interstate 55 in Holmes County is now at home recovering from her injuries.

Anna Prophet, 61, of Greenwood lost control of a vehicle and collided with a tree. Margaret Cochran, 70, also of Greenwood, who was a passenger, died in the accident.

Supreme Court justice to speak at Voters event

State Supreme Court Justice James Graves and Mississippi Valley State University President Donna Oliver will be the guest speakers at the annual banquet of the Greenwood Voters League on Friday.

The event begins at 7 p.m., preceded by a wine-and-cheese reception at 6. Tickets are $12.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
