Fried foods, trains, blues and other icons of the South pepper the Okratones new self-titled "swingabilly folkgrass" album.

The album is a collaboration of musicians Wendell Haag, Kevin Guyer and Cecil Abels, musicians from various other bands who came together to form the Okratones.

Man dies in fire near Sidon

A late-night fire claimed the life of a Leflore County man just outside Sidon on Tuesday night.

Richard Cameron Shaw Jr., 57, was found dead in his home after firefighters were unable to extinguish a rapidly spreading fire that engulfed his home.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
