A Greenwood woman hospitalized last Wednesday after a crash on Interstate 55 in Holmes County is now at home recovering from her injuries.
Anna Prophet, 61, of Greenwood lost control of a vehicle and collided with a tree. Margaret Cochran, 70, also of Greenwood, who was a passenger, died in the accident.
Prophet is the widow of Charles “Chuck” Prophet, a former athletic director of Mississippi Valley State University.
According to Tony Dunn, a Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman, Cochran died Wednesday evening. Prophet was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Prophet was not able to speak on the phone this morning, but her daughter, Talunja Prophet, gave an update on her condition.
“She said that she is doing a little better but that she is really sore,” she said.
Talunja Prophet said Anna suffered a collapsed lung and was bruised badly. She said she has regularly complained of being sore.
According to Dunn, Anna Prophet’s vehicle swerved off the road, hit a tree and spun around before catching fire. A passing motorist pulled both women from the vehicle.
