Food Corps worker teaches healthy eating

Food Corps, a section of the AmeriCorps civil society program, has maintained a presence in Greenwood for a little over two years.

United Way picks new leader

Courtney Kimmel has been elected executive director of United Way of Leflore County and will begin her duties Tuesday.

Kimmel fills the position left by Freda Maxey, who announced her retirement in August after 18 years as executive director.

Speaking at the Greenwood Voters League meeting, Palmer placed heavy emphasis on his education, professional experience and tenure in office.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
