Jordan OK with revised merger

Sen. David Jordan says he is satisfied with concessions gained on a proposal to consolidate the Greenwood and Leflore County school districts.

The Mississippi Senate passed House Bill 987 by a margin of 37 to 14 Monday. Before passage, the bill was amended in committee to delay the merger of the two districts until July 1, 2019.

Pearson known for youth work

Over the years, Pearson, 42, has worked in community outreach, operated a night club, hosted two radio shows and organized numerous extracurricular programs for students from around Leflore County.

James was remembered as an integral part of MVSU’s history.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
