Tigers continue to roar: Leflore County dominates Byers, advances to 3rd round

Seven different Tigers crossed the end zone in Leflore County’s dominant 54-6 home win over H.W. Byers in the second round of the North 1A playoffs Friday night.
“This is why we worked all summer,” Leflore head coach Eric House said. “We were dedicated to the weight room, and the offseason training and conditioning has paid off so far.”

System will ease processing of arrests, verifying of identities

The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department plans to receive a boost in technology that will improve its ability to process arrests and verify identities.
The new equipment, an IDEMIA LiveScan System, will be provided through a partnership with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and the Mississippi Criminal Information Center.

Hush Puppy to present season’s last show Thursday

The Hush Puppy Music Co-op’s last show of its fall season will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The concert will feature performances by FERD, a three-piece band led by Greenville native Ferd Moyse IV, and Taylor Hollingsworth.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at Old City Hall, 121 Main St.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
