Annual AgFest set for Tuesday

AgFest, the annual celebration of the area’s largest industry, will be held Tuesday.
The Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce will present the gathering, which will be held at the Andrew McQueen Jr. Civic Center.

Red Kettle Kickoff: Salvation Army aims to raise $90,000 this year

The Salvation Army of Greenwood kicked off its annual Red Kettle donation campaign in front of Greenwood Market Place on Friday.
The donation goal for this year is $90,000, said Capt. Johnny Anthony, the corps officer of Greenwood’s Salvation Army chapter.

Goal: Start construction on new high school next March

If all goes as planned, construction of Leflore County’s planned new high school will begin in March of next year.
A representative from the Jackson-based architecture firm handling the construction of the school gave the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board an updated timeline during the board’s meeting Tuesday.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
