Threat assessments are being conducted at district’s schools

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District is taking a proactive approach to prevent school violence through threat assessments.

The district has worked with the Department of Homeland Security to carry out threat assessments at each campus, said Dr. Kenneth Pulley, the district’s superintendent, at a work session Wednesday.

School district holds college, career fair

A college and career fair was held Thursday for seniors in the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District.

Students from the district’s three high schools made trips to the Andrew McQueen Jr. Civic Center throughout the day to learn more about potential options after graduation.

Group to prepare, deliver meals Monday

Ahead of Thanksgiving, more than a thousand meals will be prepared, packaged and delivered to those in need.
This year’s “Giving at Thanksgiving” will start at 8 a.m. on Monday.
The Rev. Don Chancellor says the help from various churches, businesses and volunteers is a visible sign of unity.

ArtPlace receives $25,650 grant

ArtPlace Mississippi has received a $25,650 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission.
The Greenwood-based arts nonprofit will use the funding to make repairs to four bathrooms across its two buildings and upgrade workspace sinks.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
