2 charged in shooting incident

The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department has charged two Greenwood men in a shooting incident that occurred last week off Browning Road.
The Sheriff’s Department and Greenwood Police Department also are investigating how that incident may be connected with two incidents from earlier that day in Greenwood.

Irving urges listeners to back Democrats

As chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party, Tyree Irving says his goal is to turn Mississippi from red to blue.
He also did not mince words Wednesday when attacking the Republican Party, describing their legislative priorities as destructive for Black and brown Americans.

The town of Tchula will hold a ribbon-cutting next week to mark the installation of a sign at the entrance to the town and celebrate landscaping additions there.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
