Man's body recovered from river

The body of a Greenwood man who jumped to his death off a Yazoo River bridge has been recovered.

The body of Ronshay Nichols was found by recovery boats around 3:15 p.m. Sunday near the northern bank, about 300 yards from the spot where he jumped into the river on Friday night, according to Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore.

Mentoring group project focuses on civil rights

The Greenwood Mentoring Group is preparing a special summer project in which youngsters will explore the South’s civil rights struggle firsthand from the streets of Greenwood to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.

The program, “Greenwood — 1965 and the Impact of the Civil Rights Movement,” will run from June 16 to July 22.

Incumbent faces pair of challengers

The three-way race for mayor of Greenwood will be decided Tuesday by voters at the polls.

The contest pits two-term incumbent Carolyn McAdams against Kenderick Cox and Shun Pearson. McAdams and Pearson are independents, Cox a Democrat.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
