Plenty of praise for new police HQ

A crowd of more than 60 people came out Friday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and to take a tour of Greenwood’s $3.7 million renovated police headquarters.

The project, which took more than two years, transformed the “mid-century modern” building — built in 1967 — into a bright, efficient police station of tomorrow.

Spotty rain hasn’t hurt crops, area farmers say

Leflore County farmers, facing off-and-on showers, say the crops so far haven’t been damaged.

“The corn and soybeans look wonderful. The cotton is real slow because of the rain and temperature,” said Chris Bush.

Bush was out in the field this morning laying out the final sections of polypipe for the family’s corn crop.

Money recovering from train wreck

For more than a month, the residents of Money have had to cope with the aftermath of a fiery train collision.

Johnny Jones, whose house is located with 30 feet of the railroad line and two-tenths of a mile from the site of the fire, said April 30 started off the same as any other Sunday.
