Week 1 of garbage plan ‘interesting’

The city of Greenwood has completed its first week of once-a-week garbage pickup, and Mayor Carolyn McAdams said the change is likely to pay off down the road.

“It’s been quite interesting. I think it’s gone well overall,” McAdams said.

Pillow Academy senior Katie Gregory of Greenwood has been named a 2015 National Merit Finalist.

She was one of 1.4 million students nationwide who entered the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program during their junior year.

Recycling chief wins state award

Greenwood-Leflore Recycling has been named the Local Recycler of the Year by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.

Word of the annual award brought Anne Marie Kornelis, the program’s coordinator, a round of applause from the Greenwood City Council on Tuesday.
