2nd man charged in burglaries

A second Texas man has been charged in Leflore County in connection with a string of commercial burglaries in 2014, says County Sheriff Ricky Banks.

Donta Tramayne Malcolm, 33, 3733 Ablon Trail, Garland, Texas, remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.

Man shot in hip

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in apprehending a gunman who wounded a Greenwood man in his front yard Sunday night.

“About 8:30 Sunday night, we had an officer who was in the area of Pelican Street. He heard a gunshot and went to investigate,” said Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore.

Sunday’s Newsboys concert at the Leflore County Civic Center was one of historic proportions — 2,101 tickets sold — for the one-night event.

The Christian pop rock band’s performance was a big hit, according to Dr. Jim Phillips, pastor of North Greenwood Baptist Church. “I’m a little winded. ... This was a step of faith.”
