Pillow Academy senior Katie Gregory of Greenwood has been named a 2015 National Merit Finalist.
She was one of 1.4 million students nationwide who entered the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program during their junior year.
Katie is the daughter of Lance Gregory and the stepdaughter of Brandi Gregory, both of whom work for Cannon Motor Co.
“It’s a tremendous honor to receive. With it, you can go to just about any school you want,” said Geraldine DeLoach, guidance counselor at Pillow.
She said the finalists represent fewer than 1 percent of all U.S. high school seniors.
Loach said Katie “is an excellent student and very intelligent” and “any school would love to have her as a student.”
DeLoach said Katie became a National Merit Finalist based upon her SAT scores.
Katie, who has been at Pillow since kindergarten, said she plans to stay in Mississippi after graduation. She said she’s leaning toward the University of Mississippi and majoring in chemical engineering. Her older sister, Haley, is a senior at Ole Miss.
DeLoach said all of Katie’s hard work has paid off and her future is bright. “She’s a joy to work with,” DeLoach said.
