A field south of Sidon this morning shows signs of a recent rain. Most farmers, taking advantage of warmer-than-usual temperatures, were able to get their field work done prior to the rain. Morning temperatures are expected to drop to freezing beginning Thursday and continue through Sunday.

Leflore County farmers hope the return of cooler weather, forecast for later this week, will start the 2016 crop year right.

“From all indications, most of the farmers have already gotten their tillage done for next year,” said Andy Braswell, an agent with the Leflore County Extension Service.

Toy, clothing drive set for Saturday

Greenwood Market Place, in cooperation with the Salvation Army of Greenwood, will hold its second annual Christmas toy and clothing drive Saturday.

The drive, which will include a dropoff location in the store’s parking lot greenhouse, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is part of the store’s annual Angel Tree participation.
