Greenwood Market Place, in cooperation with the Salvation Army of Greenwood, will hold its second annual Christmas toy and clothing drive Saturday.
The drive, which will include a dropoff location in the store’s parking lot greenhouse, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is part of the store’s annual Angel Tree participation.
People may drop off new unwrapped toys and clothing for an Angel Tree child at Saturday’s event, said Derrick Simpson, the store’s general manager, who serves on the Salvation Army board.
A child’s name is placed on the tree, telling his or her name, age and gender. Those wishing to donate simply take a name off the tree, located in the lobby of the grocery store, and buy a gift or clothing for that child.
Last year, the campaign was held in conjunction with a car show involving the Delta Cruisers, but the car show could not be scheduled for this year.
Other established Angel Tree locations include Delta Bistro, CB&S Bank and Walmart.
Capt. Benjamin Deuel of the Salvation Army of Greenwood said toys and clothing may be dropped off at the Salvation Army. He said a number of Angels have already been adopted.
Also, Capt. Wendy Deuel said volunteers have been coming forward in greater numbers than in years past for the annual Salvation Army kettle campaign.
“This year has been a blessing,” she said.
