Slaying suspect goes to court Feb. 1

A man charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife in 2014 is awaiting a Feb. 1 arraignment in Leflore County Circuit Court.

Edward Broom, 34, has been indicted by a Leflore County grand jury in the slaying of Lakeyla Foreman Broom. Mr. Broom was extradited from Manhattan, Kansas, on Monday.

Owe city for fine? Here’s chance to pay

Those who owe outstanding traffic and other fines to the city of Greenwood have an opportunity to come forward and start fresh.

They will have until Feb. 29 to set up new repayment plans. Although the program doesn’t officially begin until Monday, they can get the process started this week, Police Chief Ray Moore said.
