Skating rink owner is found not guilty of assault charge

A former Leflore County supervisor has been found innocent of an assault charge related to an altercation at a skating rink.

Larry "Kite" Johnson was accused of striking 16-year-old Lorenzo Prayer in the nose with a flashlight while trying to break up a fight in July at Spotlite Skating Rink. Johnson is a co-owner of the rink.

Students arrested after fight at school

A Leflore County High School student has been charged with aggravated assault after a fight Monday morning at the school.

Dwight Brown, 15, of 820 Freedom St., Itta Bena, was accused of stabbing 17-year-old Markus Sherrod in the back after two gangs got into an argument, said Sheriff Ricky Banks.

300 Oaks Road Race draws 1,000 or more

Saturday's annual 300 Oaks Road Race was boosted by good weather, a record number of runners and a unifying sense of patriotism.

Those in attendance sang "God Bless America" at the awards ceremony and joined in prayer for the people affected by Tuesday's attacks on New York and Washington.
