Stabbing suspect arrested, jailed

A suspect in a Thursday stabbing was arrested Friday by the Leflore County Sheriff's Department.\

Mack Crigler, 32, of 212 Woods St., Sidon, was jailed on a charge of aggravated assault in the stabbing of J.C. Hudson, 48, of 19A Holly Grove Road near Sidon.

Hudson was hospitalized after being stabbed in the neck.

This means a lot of work for Mississippi Blood Services, which is holding a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Greenwood Leflore Hospital's Flex Building.

Community remembers victims, families

Churchgoers vowed to let their light shine at a special candlelight service Thursday night to mourn the victims of Tuesday's attacks in New York and Washington.

The service, featuring speeches from ministers and political leaders as well as music, was held at McKinney Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
