Longtime bartender, business owner known for his smile

Those who knew Clifton “Tut” Williams Sr. say he had a profound effect on anyone he met and had a smile that stuck with people.

His children, Clifton Jr. and Bertha Jean Williams, said they cherished his smile: “He had such a deep, caring personality for everyone.”

Spring sports allowed to proceed

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board has approved participation in spring athletics.

During the board’s Tuesday night meeting, the trustees voted 3-2 to participate in such activities as baseball, softball and track and field. These sports are scheduled to start in March.

Suit against county getting attention again

A three-year-old lawsuit against Leflore County by a current Greenwood City Council candidate has regained attention.

On Monday, the county Board of Supervisors went into executive session, seemingly to discuss the suit filed in October 2018 by Lavoris Weathers against Leflore County and 10 unnamed defendants.

Some streets will close temporarily for filming of TV series

The filming of the “Women of the Movement” television series will shut down general use of some Greenwood roads for portions of three days this week.

From Thursday to Saturday, production crew vehicles, as well as equipment, will be on the streets surrounding the 500 block of Bell Avenue.
