CVS now has Pfizer vaccine

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is now available at CVS in Greenwood.
The pharmacy’s Park Avenue location sent out a text message update Monday morning that the store had started administering a limited amount of the two-dose vaccine to those 16 years and older.

Schools get new fleet of vehicles

Betty Davis, an Itta Bena resident who went shopping Thursday, said she was happy the new Dollar General Market saves her the trip to Greenwood for fresh fruits and vegetables. For over a decade, the city has been without a local store where people could buy groceries.

Market boosts Itta Bena

For the first time in more than a decade, Itta Bena residents can now buy fresh produce in their town.

The new Dollar General Market on U.S. 82 is a traditional Dollar General store but with an added grocery section that offers items including fresh fruits, vegetables and meat — something that has been lacking in the city.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
