Carroll Co. schools will require masks

Carroll County's public schools are the latest in the greater Greenwood area to require that students, staff and visitors wear masks.
Students, teachers and visitors of Carroll County public schools will be required to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status, said Jim Ray, district superintendent.

Salvation Army, Walmart set to team up for school supply drive

The Greenwood Salvation Army and Walmart will join forces Friday through Sunday to sponsor the annual “Stuff the Bus” back-to-school event.
The public is invited to drop off school supplies at The Salvation Army, contactless collection bins at the Greenwood Walmart, located on U.S. 82 West.

1,028 riders signed up for Bikes, Blues

The return to normalcy for the 14th annual Bikes, Blues & Bayous is a welcoming site for Richard Beattie, one of the founders of the event.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 1,028 riders had registered for this Saturday’s bike ride, according to the event’s website.

Carroll Academy set to start year ‘as normal as it can be’

Carroll Academy’s new school year begins Friday, and Headmaster Penny Mitchell says she plans to start it “as normal as can be.”
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Carroll was able to conduct in-person classes for the entire 2020-2021 school year, and that will continue in the new year.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
