George earns national ranking

J.Z. George High School in North Carrollton has been named one of the top schools in the nation by U.S. & World Report.

J.Z. George earned a bronze medal from the publication, the third highest of four grades given by the report. Out of the 21,786 public high schools in 48 states, 1,189 were awarded bronze medals.

Police investigate business break-in

Police are investigating a break-in early this morning at HomeFront Home Improvement Center.

According to Brice Fulgham, the son of Richie Fulgham, a manager of the business, one or more people broke into the store on U.S. 82 at around 3 a.m.

“They messed up all the offices, looking for money,” he said.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
