Tim Tyler is starting his path toward the 2012 presidency of the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce.
The pro-business organization’s board of directors unanimously elected Tyler, a Viking Range Corp. employee, as vice president Thursday.
The position means he will successively serve as president-elect and then president of the Chamber.
“I’m proud they would consider me to take part in the chamber at this level,” Tyler said.
Michael Joe Cannon, 2010 president, said they could not have picked a better vice president.
“He’s very well organized, has a great personality and is very knowledgeable about technology,” Cannon said. “He’s everything you could want in a Chamber member.”
A Greenwood native, Tyler has worked at Viking for 16 years in Web development. He and his wife, Cindy, also own the Mississippi Gift Co.
Tyler has served as president of the United Way of Leflore County and is active in St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Tyler said his experience at Viking has taught him the value of manufacturing and retail in the Greenwood area.
“The chamber not only provides activities for the community but also brings people into the area and supports new and existing businesses,” Tyler said.
He said he plans to support the chamber leadership and their plans for the city. Suresh Chawla will follow Cannon as president in 2011.
Cannon said one of the main goals of the chamber will be to give members more “bang for their buck.” A new responsibility will be Bikes, Blues and Bayous, a summer bicycling event previously handled by Main Street Greenwood.
