Woman charged in 2nd burglary

Less than a week after being arrested and charged with burglary of a vehicle, a Greenwood woman has been charged with stealing from another vehicle.

Nykesia Riddle, 18, 805 Walthall St., was arrested and accused of breaking into an automobile in the Crystal Grill’s parking lot around noon Jan. 12, Police Chief Henry Purnell said.

City to celebrate MLK's legacy by promoting census

Greenwood’s celebration of his holiday will, therefore, include promoting the value of an accurate census.

The celebration will be at 12:15 Tuesday on the steps of City Hall.

Mayor: Police making city a safer place to live

Reaction from citizens has been mixed regarding substantially lower crime statistics reported last week by the Greenwood Police Department.

The department reported a 67 percent drop in violent crimes from 2008 to 2009. Burglaries also fell precipitously.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
