5 city firefighters earn medical certification

A few Greenwood firefighters took it upon themselves to bring extra emergency services to the city — and the department itself.

Recently, two firefighters received their paramedic certification and three became certified emergency management technicians (EMTs). Two of the new EMTs are enrolled in classes to become paramedics as well.

120 GHS seniors to graduate Friday

Greenwood High School will hold its 2010 commencement exercise at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Leflore County Civic Center.

This year, 120 seniors are expected to receive their diplomas.

Charmeka Singleton is the valedictorian, and Brittany Boone is the salutatorian.

Charmeka had a GPA of 4.43, and Brittany had a 4.03 GPA.

Bedell plans to run for sheriff

More than a year before the election, Demetrice Bedell has announced that he will run for Leflore County sheriff.

Bedell made his announcement Wednesday at a meeting of the Greenwood Voters League.

Bedell, 40, a lifelong resident of Leflore County, said it is time for a change in the sheriff’s office.

Dem leader backs election suit

The chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party expressed support Wednesday night for dismissing or modifying a consent decree signed by the Leflore County Election Commission and the Mississippi Republican Party.
