Voters League delivers school supplies

Some students in Itta Bena got a little help with gathering up school supplies Thursday.

More than 100 people showed up at the Brazil Center to collect free school supplies. The Itta Bena Voters League has been working the past two weeks to gather funds and assemble school supply packets for the “Back to School Bash.”

GHS grad killed

A Greenwood family is mourning the loss of a man killed while serving as a private contractor in Afghanistan.

Wayne and Vicki Pittman said they were shocked by a phone call last Friday morning. They were told their 41-year-old son, retired Master Sgt. Robert Wayne Pittman Jr., had been killed Thursday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
