Natural gas prices down

Winter heating bills could drop by a substantial amount this year for customers of Atmos Energy.

The cost of natural gas bought by Atmos has decreased by 10 to 12 percent, and the savings will be passed on to the customers, said David Gates, president of Atmos’ Mississippi division.

Delta tour an eye-opener

Supporters of equal justice across Mississippi experienced the Delta over the weekend and also learned about what they can do to enrich the region.

The Mississippi Center for Justice, a nonprofit public interest law firm based in Jackson, stopped in Greenwood on Saturday as part of a tour of the Delta.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
