Hotel ready to open

When the new Hampton Inn opens Friday, it will add 74 new guest rooms for Greenwood visitors and increase the city's total to almost 700.

Among these, 134 will be owned and operated by the Hampton's operator, Chawla Enterprises of Greenwood.

Principal says hearing will be open

The Greenwood School District's hearing for Dr. Nannette Christmas-Reed scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday is expected to be open to the public.

Christmas-Reed, the Davis Elementary School principal whom the district has declined to rehire next year, said, "I don't have anything to hide. That's really it."

Johnson, Powell both found not guilty

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
