Leflore proceeding with building plans

Leflore County's looking at constructing a more than $2 million sheriff's administration building in Greenwood Leflore Industrial Park over the next couple of years.

The Board of Supervisors resolved to go forward with the project Monday, initializing preliminary plans presented by Jackson architects Bill McElroy and Ralph Maisel.

Wilson has left post as principal

Joycelyn Wilson has left her job as principal of W.C. Williams Elementary School.

Wilson, who is facing federal embezzlement charges unrelated to her employment in Greenwood, said this morning that she retired from the job Thursday.

Board member resigns

John Aldridge, a 10-year veteran of the Greenwood School Board, said Tuesday he would be stepping down from the appointed position.

He made the announcement to the board during its regular meeting at the district's office. The meeting was attended by various educators and a number of Davis Elementary School parents.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
