District seeks 4% funding increase

NORTH CARROLLTON — The Carroll County School Board has voted to ask for a 4 percent increase in property tax revenue and other local funding.

The requested increase of $91,638 over last year’s request will bring local funding for the schools to more than $2.2 million.

Carroll bridges in bad shape

VAIDEN — Carroll County’s bridge situation mirrors Mississippi’s, and it’s pretty dire, supervisors were told Monday.

A much-traveled bridge on County Road 286 in Beat 1 fell in earlier this month, and others in the county are in critical shape, supervisors and State Aid employee Jerry Gilliland said.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
