Interim superintendent stays busy

Charles Brooks said Tuesday that he has had to “start early and work late” since being appointed interim superintendent of the Greenwood School District.

School board goes behind closed doors

The Greenwood School Board met for nearly three hours Tuesday night, more than half of it spent behind closed doors discussing employee salaries and staff transfers.

The closed portion of the board’s meeting also included a disciplinary hearing that brought some heated words from a student’s relative.

Chamber plans new tax-exempt foundation

The Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce is on track to open a new tax-exempt foundation within the next couple of months, says its executive director, Beth Stevens.

The Leadership, Education and Progress (LEAP) Foundation will be a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, exempting it from paying federal income tax.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
