Superintendent search begins

The Greenwood School Board on Tuesday authorized the commencement of a search for the next superintendent.

The move was announced after a 90-minute closed session.

Charles Brooks has served as interim superintendent since Montrell Greene was fired by the board in January.

Florida State prof develops Till app

A professor has launched a smartphone application to educate people about the life, death and memory of Emmett Till.

Davis Houck, a professor at Florida State University’s College of Communication and Information and a prominent Till researcher, developed the Emmett Till Memorial Project app with Niantic Labs.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
