Missing socks remain one of life’s biggest mysteries

Last week, I heard the story of a Great Dane who wasn’t feeling well, so his family took him to their vet. After the initial examination, X-rays were taken, and the cause of illness was quickly discovered. The dog had to go under the knife for surgery to remove 42 socks that he had eaten. Yes, I said 42 socks.

Southerners known for their unique way of speaking

Southerners have a way of speaking that many people who are not from the South can’t really understand. This is never more evident than when I visit my sister in San Francisco. It is not always the accent, but the way we word things.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
