Various Hollywood sources are reporting that Chris Lowell of the television show “Private Practice” will be joining the cast of “The Help,” which is set to begin filming in Greenwood in July.
“The Help” will star Emma Stone as Skeeter, an aspiring writer in 1960s Mississippi. Skeeter sets out to write a book about the way black maids are treated by their white employers.
Lowell, 25, is in negotiations with DreamWorks to play Skeeter’s boyfriend, Stuart Whiteworth.
The movie, adapted from Jackson native Kathryn Stockett’s bestselling novel, also starts Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Lowell, a native of Atlanta, also appeared on the big screen in “Up in the Air.”
He had been a regular character on ABC’s “Private Practice” since it premiere in 2007.
Lowell’s character, William “Dell” Parker, was recently killed off on the show.
Meanwhile, aspiring “Help” performers can now to fill out an application for being cast as an extra in the movie.
Instructions for applying are also available at the Mississippi Film Office website. Basic information and a photo of the interested persons are being requested.
“The Help” is expected to film here until October.
