The Leflore County Board of Supervisors has approved $2,500 in compensation to the estate of a man whose property was seized during a 2005 raid by the North Central Mississippi Narcotics Task Force.
The task force was found in contempt of court June 11 in Holmes County after not returning items seized from Kenneth Wayne Golden.
Sheriff Ricky Banks said a green 1994 GMC truck was confiscated during a drug deal. While it was held on the property of the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department, someone stole it.
The vehicle was in the custody of the task force.
A ruling on Feb. 10, 2009 had mandated the return of all property seized. The court found the task force had failed to comply with the court’s order to return the property or its fair market value to the estate expeditiously.
Kenneth Golden is deceased. His widow, Linda Faye Golden, was seeking $2,500 for the value of the vehicle on behalf of his estate.
Banks told the board that funds would be taken out of seizure money. He said the two parties had already come to an agreement on a 1994 Plymouth van that was also seized.
