Stars & Stripes: Chapel Hart to perform at 4th of July celebration

This year’s Stars & Stripes community Independence Day celebration will feature popular country music group Chapel Hart.
Organized by the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, the annual event will be held on Thursday at the park between the two downtown bridges along the Yazoo River.

Ground to be broken Jan. 23 on new school

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District has scheduled the groundbreaking ceremony for its new high school for Jan. 23.
The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. and will be held at the location of the new school, which is on 16th Section land along Cypress Avenue.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
