A Winona man is being held in the Leflore County Jail after being charged in a shooting in Winona on Friday.
Daniel Antquine Cordell Jr., 21, 411 South Union St., has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Bond has been set at $600,000.
A release from the Winona Police Department said Cordell is accused of shooting Santonio Williams and Derric Suddoth multiple times with a .45-caliber handgun on McNutt Street on Friday.
Both men were taken to Jackson with life-threatening injuries, and Williams died from his injuries later that evening, the release said.
Cordell was arrested Saturday without incident.
The shooting led to the cancellation of that night’s football game between J.Z. George High School and Winona High School. The Winona School District had placed its schools on lockdown.
Joey Carpenter, Carroll County’s school superintendent, affirmed that the game was canceled for safety reasons.
Cordell currently faces no charges from Leflore County. Winona Police Chief Roshaun Daniels could not be reached for comment on Tuesday as to why Cordell was being held at the Leflore County Jail.
