Greenwood native Sunjay Chawla, robbed in DC, recalls scary day

Greenwood Chorale to perform Tuesday

The Greenwood Chorale soon will offer the community its special holiday concert, “On Christmas Night.”
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church. Greenwoodian Paul Brown is the chorale’s director.
Thanks to community sponsors, the concert is free to all comers. Everyone is invited.

Red Kettle Campaign 80% of the way to goal

The Salvation Army of Greenwood is looking to finish strong in this year’s Red Kettle Campaign, having collected more than 80% of its goal amount.
Capt. Johnny Anthony said Friday that this year’s campaign had raised $75,000. The fundraiser will end on Christmas Eve.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
