Wyatt Emmerich, right, gifts a commemorative plaque from the Mississippi Press Association to Tim Kalich, the retiring editor and publisher of the Commonwealth, on Friday during a party organized by the newspaper’s staff in Kalich’s honor. Emmerich, president of Emmerich Newspapers, the Commonwealth’s parent company, described Kalich as a brother. Kalich first came to the Commonwealth in 1982 as a reporter after being hired by Emmerich’s father, the late John O. Emmerich Jr. Friday was Kalich’s last day at the Commonwealth.
