City awarded grant for ArtPlace study

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History has awarded the city of Greenwood a $4,000 grant to fund a feasibility study on the possible expansion and redevelopment of ArtPlace Mississippi’s downtown building at 212 W. Washington St.

Customers have been seeing long lines at the Park Avenue branch of Regions Bank, with vehicles sometimes spilling out into the street. The other Regions branch in Greenwood was closed due to a COVID-19-related incident.

Coronavirus forces temporary closure of one Regions branch

Regions Bank is now using only one of its two Greenwood locations — the West Park Avenue branch — because of a COVID-19 incident earlier this month.

This has resulted in longer-than-usual lines of customers using the branch’s drive-through windows.

Riverview has 3rd virus outbreak

Riverview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is experiencing its third outbreak of COVID-19.

The Mississippi State Department of Health added the Greenwood nursing home on Friday to its list of long-term care facilities with active outbreaks of the virus.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
