Beans and Greens Dinner: A call for local action

Hush Puppy concert set for Tuesday

The Hush Puppy Music Co-op will present a concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The concert will feature performances by Ben Sollee and Little Mazarn.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the event will be held at Old City Hall, 121 Main St.
The event will start with Little Mazarn, a folk-trio from Austin, Texas.

Veteran journalist Maze named Commonwealth publisher

Emmerich Newspapers, Inc., has named Brent Maze as the publisher of The Greenwood Commonwealth.
Maze comes to Greenwood as a 22-year veteran of the newspaper business. He most recently served as the publisher of The Selma Times-Journal in Selma, Alabama, from March 2024 to September 2025.

A lining project on some of Greenwood’s sewer lines continues Friday. The work seen here includes laying pipe on the Keesler Bridge. The project to reinforce the lines is a proactive measure for the city, which started at the Yazoo River Trail. The temporary pipe will remain on the bridge until the project is finished.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
