Next food pantry director ‘on fire for God’

Zack Ellis, the incoming executive director at the Greenwood Community Food Pantry, says the job opening was the answer to a prayer.
Ellis, a deacon at First Baptist Church in Itta Bena, said that before learning about the opening at the pantry, he had been calling for members of the church to be more active in helping those in need.

Arts and crafts market to be held Saturday

If you’re looking to find the perfect Mother’s Day gift, why not shop local at the Greenwood Spring Market this Saturday?
The arts and crafts market will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old City Hall.
Around 30 vendors from Greenwood and surrounding Delta cities will be attending.

Volunteers and supply donations are needed for the community theater’s final work day, to be held from noon to 3 p.m. at Davis Elementary School Auditorium, 400 Cotton St.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
