Tyes-Williams leads Freeman in mayor’s race

The Itta Bena mayor’s race is still too close to call after affidavit ballots were tallied Wednesday at the Leflore County Courthouse.

County approves emergency lease of garbage truck

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors authorized the county’s Solid Waste Department to lease a garbage truck on Monday.
The garbage truck, which loads from the rear, will be provided by Big Truck Rental for 60 days for around $8,900.

Itta Bena mayoral race: Tyes-Williams has narrow lead over Freeman

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
