Latest restaurant closure highlights partnership’s task

With the loss of another Greenwood restaurant, those involved in a partnership with a consulting firm hope to change a trend that has included several closures in recent years.

Leflore County’s assessed value has increased by 5.2%

Leflore County’s overall tax assessments increased significantly this year despite a reduction in personal property taxes.
Tax Assessor Leroy Ware addressed the Board of Supervisors during a meeting Monday, presenting the annual update of the county’s tax rolls and comparing them to the previous year.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
