School board OKs revision to hiring policy

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board has unanimously approved revising a district hiring policy.
District policy GBCA, which states the minimum number of days a notice of vacancy must be advertised, was changed from 14 business days to seven during a special called meeting Thursday.

No payments by 4 supervisors since auditor demand

No payments have been made nearly four years after the State Auditor’s Office issued a demand for more than $113,000 against four Leflore County supervisors.
Three of the supervisors said they had not heard from the auditor’s office or the State Attorney General’s Office regarding the unpaid amount.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
