Glendora police chief to help out in Itta Bena

The city of Itta Bena has added Glendora’s police chief to its force in a part-time role.
The Itta Bena Board of Aldermen unanimously approved hiring Chief Antonio Glenn during its regular meeting Tuesday night. Glenn started in his new role Wednesday and will continue in his role as Glendora’s chief.

Tribute to Till: More than 50 attend candlelight vigil

More than 50 people gathered Friday evening at the Emmett Till statue in Greenwood to honor his legacy with a candlelight vigil.
The tribute was held during a three-day remembrance hosted by the Emmett Till Interpretive Center. Thursday marked the 70th anniversary of his murder in the Mississippi Delta.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
